Buxa refill - against box tree moth

The Buxa refill is intended for use in combination with the Buxa box tree moth trap. The attractant tubes, also called pheromones, attract the male moths of the box tree moth. The male moths will fly into the trap and then cannot leave the trap. You should hang the trap near (and at the same height) a boxwood plant.

The Buxa trap is used to detect early whether box tree moths are present in the garden and to gain insight into the severity of the pest. This trap is not only there to signal, but also to catch the males so that they can no longer fertilize females. This will lead to fewer fertilized eggs and therefore a decrease in the number of feeding caterpillars. The life cycle of the box tree moth is interrupted.

1. Dosage
In case of light infestation: 1 trap with 2 attractant tubes per 150 m².
In case of heavy contamination: 1 trap with 2 attractant tubes per 50 m².

2. When to bet
Box tree moths mainly fly in the months of May to September. The advice is therefore to hang the traps from mid-May. Boxwood moths are mainly active at night. So you hardly see them during the day.

3. Shelf life
Store the remaining pheromone capsules in the original packaging in a cold and dry place.
Preferably in the freezer or otherwise in the refrigerator. Change the 2 pheromone capsules every 6 weeks.

4. Location
The boxwood trap can be hung close to boxwood shrubs.
For low boxwood plants: place the boxwood trap on a stick and stick the stick in the soil.
For boxwood on a stem: thread a string through the boxwood trap and hang it at eye level.

5. Repeat treatment
The 2 attractant capsules (pheromones) that must be placed in the trap last approximately 5 to 8 weeks. This period depends on the temperature; in warm weather the attractant will lose its effectiveness more quickly. It is therefore advisable to change the capsules every 6 weeks.
A Buxa trap comes with 2 tubes of pheromones as standard. You need 8 tubes for an entire season, so you can refill twice.

As soon as the Buxa trap is full, the trap can be emptied. It is recommended to change the pheromone capsules every 6 weeks.
