2. When to bet
Leatherjackets are easy to combat when they are still small, i.e. in the first months after they have hatched. Felti nematodes are best applied 1 to 2 months after the flight of the crane fly. If it is not known when the crane flies were visible, it is best to use the nematodes at the end of September to mid-October.
When there is a high pest pressure, it is possible to apply Felti in the spring from March onwards. It can also be controlled in summer. In summer we recommend Carpo nematodes, as this species can withstand warm summer temperatures better.
Carpo works best when the soil temperature is between 10 °C and 25 °C. Do not expose to direct sunlight: apply in the evening, morning or during cloudy weather. After application, it is important to keep the soil moist for another two weeks so that the nematodes do not dry out.
3. Shelf life
It is advisable to use the nematodes as soon as possible. Do you want to keep the nematodes longer? Then store them in the refrigerator between 4 °C and 8 °C. The nematodes have a shelf life of 1 week after receipt, provided they are refrigerated. Do not store the water solution again.
4. Location
Carpo can easily be applied to the soil with a watering can or sprayer.
5. Repeat treatment
A one-time application does not guarantee that pest insects will be gone from the garden forever. Annual repeat treatments are therefore recommended. A pest that develops quickly may require multiple applications per season.
